Accessibility Statement

Scholarship that cannot be read is not published. The Journal aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across this site and in the typeset works it produces, and treats accessibility defects as production defects rather than enhancements.

This website

Pages use semantic headings in order, landmark regions, and a single first-level heading per page. Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, and focus is visible at all times.

Contents rails highlight the section the reader is actually looking at, and every rail entry is an ordinary link that works without JavaScript pointing devices. Figures carry text alternatives and full captions; colour is never the only carrier of meaning.

Typeset PDFs

Downloaded works are generated by the Journal’s own typesetting engine. Each document carries a document title and language, an outline of bookmarks for every section, real selectable and searchable text rather than images of text, and reading order that follows the columns as a reader would.

Where a work is mathematically or graphically dense, the caption carries the interpretation in words so that a reader using assistive technology is not dependent on the image.

Figures, data and download controls

Figures are protected from casual copying, but never at the cost of access: the typeset PDF always carries the figure, its caption and its credit line, and native figure files are offered where the Author has permitted direct download. See the Data Availability Policy.

Known limitations

Historic works supplied to the Journal as fixed-layout files may not carry a full tag tree. We re-typeset such works on request.

Some interactive reading aids, including reference insight cards, are on-screen features only and are deliberately excluded from the typeset record.

Tell us about a barrier

If any part of a work is inaccessible to you, write to editorial@jqbio.org naming the work and the barrier. We acknowledge within ten working days and, where we can, supply an accessible version of the work while the underlying defect is fixed.
